The Story

Zinapécuaro Clay Vase with Animal and other Creatures Motifs Handmade in Zinapécuaro, Michoacán

Handcrafted using ancestral methods, this clay pot from Zinapécuaro blends tradition with creative spirit. Its bold body is shaped from local clay, then burnished with river stones and woodfired until it achieves its smooth, rich color. The design features hand-painted figures inspired by Purépecha imagery, including stylized creatures and symbols that evoke ancient stories.

These designs are created using the negative imprint technique: the pot is removed from the kiln before completion, cooled, painted with natural pigments, and re-fired to set the designs permanently into the clay. This process not only preserves the integrity of the shape but enhances the contrast and durability of the decoration. A striking piece of cultural artistry for your home or a one-of-a-kind gift.
