The Story

Barro Rojo, Red Clay, Face Tumbler Handmade in San Marcos Tlapazola, Oaxaca.

This unique tumbler, handcrafted in San Marcos Tlapazola, Oaxaca, brings the traditional art of Barro Rojo pottery to life. Each piece, shaped by the skilled hands of local Zapotec women, features a charming face design that's typical in Oaxacan clay work, making every tumbler one-of-a-kind.

Made from natural, locally sourced red clay, this tumbler is food-safe, free from dyes or glazes, and perfect for those who appreciate artisanal authenticity. The natural burnishing and baking process gives it a distinctive terracotta color and texture. It's not just a tumbler; it's a piece of Oaxaca's rich cultural heritage, ideal for sipping your favorite drinks or as a striking conversation piece in your home.

  • Red Clay is known for its resistance to high temperatures, making this the perfect cookware for open-fire cooking
  • Each mug has unique texture and color variations, which may include black/gray fire stains, making them one-of-a-kind
  • APPROX. MEASUREMENTS:
    3.5” in diameter x 5.25” tall
    16 fl. oz.
  • CARE: We recommend handwashing this piece to ensure texture remains the same for years. Let fully cool before washing. Some pieces of red clay may filter water (because no glaze or sealant was used). Emerenciana, recommends cooking the piece with atole or a thick beverage and letting the piece cool before washing. Doing this several times will “cure” the piece as time and use is the best way to seal barro rojo pieces.

At Lolo - Mercadito we are committed to acknowledging the nature of each product. With each purchase, you are getting a unique and authentic piece that was handmade with love by artisans from Mexico. These are artisanal products. For this reason, there might be some flaws and variations in color, measurements, shapes, and design.
